Based in Denver Colorado, the Colorado Avalanche were actually founded in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques. The Nordiques were one of the original franchises of the World Hockey Association along with the Edmonton Oilers, New England Whalers, Winnipeg Jets, and others. The franchise joined the NHL in 1979 as a result of the NHL–WHA merger.
After making the post-season for seven consecutive seasons, the Quebec Nordiques fell into a terrible slump that lasted from the late 1980s. They were actually considered to be the worst team in the league. That is, until the team relocated to Denver and officially became the Colorado Avalanche. In the club's first season in Denver, the Avalanche won the Pacific Division and went on to sweep the Florida Panthers in the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals, becoming the first NHL team to win a championship in the season following a relocation. This was the first major professional sports championship a Denver-based team would bring to the city.
Colorado Avalanche Ticket Holders filled the Pepsi Center throughout the rest of the 1990s as the team continued to win division titles, but wouldn’t bring home another Stanley Cup until 2001, when they defeated the New Jersey Devils. This second and most recent win give the Colorado Avalanche the unique distinction of being the only active NHL team that has won all of its Stanley Cup appearances.
Colorado Avalanche Ticket Holders are a loyal fan base, certain a third Stanley Cup win is coming in the near future. With the way the team has been playing in recent years, they may be right. Make sure you get Colorado Avalanche Tickets from Golden Tickets and don’t miss any of the excitement.
